The Western World seems to be turning against anything that is traditionally ‘masculine’ –
using terms like ‘toxic masculinity’. But as a church, we want to rejoice in God’s creation of
our wonderful differences of male and female.
Without slipping into things that are just ‘macho’, or ‘bravado’, we believe that when men are
truly men, it is good for them – and women, too. God created people male and female
(Genesis 1:27); the two compliment each other. The differences in our bodies, hormones,
emotions and instincts all serve the glorious beauty of how we relate together.

The ‘feminist movement’ has helpfully highlighted some areas of injustice. However, the
blurring of differences between the sexes or genders (yes, they are synonyms) has done no
favours to either.
While the bible encourages the idea of women working (eg Proverbs 31:10-31), and affirms
that some find contentment remaining single and childless (1 Corinthians 7:25-35), it is
nevertheless true that those given the opportunity of marriage and motherhood will find their
greatest satisfaction in the home and family (Titus 2:4-5).

In the church, women are encouraged to take responsibility and teach other women and
children (eg Titus 2:3-5), but leadership and teaching in the whole church is the responsibility
of men (1 Timothy 2:12). When men take more responsibility and lead well, everyone
flourishes.
