Identity

Sexual identity can be a deeply sensitive issue. We do not want people to feel pushed away from knowing God because of their experience of sexual attractions or ‘who they are’. In fact, there is good news for anyone who feels marginalised, misunderstood or excluded!

The good news is that that while we might find our identity in a particular sexuality, lifestyle, attraction or feeling … our true identity goes way beyond any of those things. However we think of ourselves, we are made in the image of the glorious, living God (Genesis 1:27). He made us to know him, to live for him, serve him and worship him. He sent his Son, Jesus, to call us back to what he made us to be.

All of us have a warped view of ourselves. We are made to be something far greater than we
imagine. God’s plan for people is a far more beautiful and fulfilling reality than we could
make up. People who follow Jesus Christ find their lives turned around by this. That can be
painful, slow, and difficult sometimes – but it is more than worth it.

Everyone at Wellfield Church is a ‘work in progress’, as God shapes us into who we really
are, as his children. We make plenty of mistakes along the way, too – and need God’s daily
forgiveness. As God calls us back to himself, through the forgiveness and new life that Jesus
brings, we hold out that message of hope to others.
